Burton Travel was founded in 1962 by R. Burton Swerdlin. At the time, Burton Swerdlin operated a small chain of retail jewelry stores in Baltimore. "Burton" dedicated a small portion of the northeast Baltimore jewelry store to the retail travel agency business.

Shortly after receiving the requisite airline and steamship appointments to enter the travel business, "Burton" realized that there were many who shared his wanderlust to see the world and that the travel business was his future.

In 1965 the agency business was relocated to Owings Mills and the brand new shopping mall at Reisterstown Road and McDonogh Lane -- The Valley Village Shopping Center.

Owings Mills and Valley Village grew over the ensuing years and Burton Travel grew right along -- adding personnel and state of the art facilities and tools to handle our clients' growing desire to travel.

After celebrating our 40th anniversary in the Valley Village Shopping Center in 2005 we relocated to Boulevard Corporate Center and expanded to open Java Journeys -- a travel/European themed coffee bar.    Responding to the ever increasing "electronic nature" of our industry along with the economic realities of the times, Burton Travel has gone "virtual" in 2009 while maintaining an office on McDonogh Road in which to meet our valued clients and the public.
